The Food Brigade recently acquired a 4,200 square foot building in the City of Clifton, to be operated as the organization's new Passaic County Community Food Security Center. The facility includes space for warehousing and distribution operations, a client-choice pantry market in a true grocery store setting, and a resource/training room for wraparound services such as SNAP enrollment sessions, nutrition education, job training, budgeting and financial literacy workshops, and more.
According to Food Brigade Executive Director Carmine DeMarco, "Our still-young organization has reached the stage where we are pivoting from a focus on the emergency distribution of food, to a holistic approach attacking the root causes of food insecurity: poverty and system inequalities."
The Food Brigade is the only Partner Agency of the Community FoodBank of New Jersey to operate food distribution facilities in three New Jersey counties.
